Recording a collection

Open Collections and choose Record collection. A five-step wizard: Template, Bins, Compliance, Measurements, Review.

Recording collections 4 min read

Open Collections and choose Record collection. (There is no "New collection" button — that is the one people look for.)

If you hold the Insurer role you will not see the button: that role is view-only, and the page will tell you so.

The five steps

  1. Template — search by name, site or building, or tap Scan QR and scan the sticker on the bin. Only templates that are due appear here. If the list is empty, your templates are either all collected or none are assigned to you.
  2. Bins — tick the bins you emptied. One row is created per bin. Bins already collected are disabled and marked Collected. There are Select all and Clear buttons.
  3. Compliance — the Compliant collection? switch. Leave it on for a clean collection; turn it off to flag a problem. See Flagging a non-compliant collection.
  4. Measurements — set the fullness slider, or switch on Use actual weight (scale) and type the weighed figure. The card shows estimated weight, capacity and estimated CO₂e as you go. Capture location records where you were.
  5. Review — check template, location, bins, fullness, weight, CO₂e and compliance, then Submit.

Fullness or actual weight?

Fullness is an estimate: the platform converts the percentage into a weight using the typical weight and density held against the waste type.

If you have scales, switch on Use actual weight (scale) — a real number always beats an estimate, and those real numbers are what Calibration later uses to make everyone else's estimates better.

You cannot lose your work

Progress is saved as you go, on our servers rather than in your browser — so it survives a refresh, a re-login, and even a different device. See Unfinished collections.

After you submit

You will be told how many bins were recorded, and whether the template still has bins left. If everything is done you will see that too, and can move to the next template.
